Welcome to the Friends of Chaldon Church
The Friends of the Church was set up in December 2015 and is a Registered Charity: No 1182430.
Its aim is to preserve and promote the cultural heritage and the fabric of the parish Church of St Peter and St Paul in Chaldon.
The Friends has a major role in promoting the history of the church with formal lectures and tours of the building as well as informal discussions with our frequent visitors. It also holds a number of events throughout the year to raise extra funds to help maintain the fabric of the building and the preservation of the great medieval painting on the west wall.
To be a Friend of Chaldon Church you do not need to be a church goer. By becoming a Friend you will help to ensure the future of this 1,000 year old historic building.
During the first 3 years the Friends has paid for the routine examination of the mural by conservationists (£900) and more recently the architectural assessment of work urgently required on the structure of the church, (£4310).
The costs of fabric repair to the church is increasing every year and further to the report at the end of 2019 from the church architect the cost of refurbishment to this Grade 1 listed building has been assessed at approximately £300,000.
The Friends has already given £10,000 for the project and ‘ringfenced’ another £10,000 for the initial phase of this project.
